Coaching: a message from Rik. |
I respect that there are a lot of options for life coaches in the market place. In fact it is one of Google’s most searched items. I believe there’s much confusion about what constitutes coaching…. and let me state right away it has nothing to do with “diplomas & certificates”. Quite simply, if you are seeking an extraordinary quality of life you need to ensure that your “Life Coach” does not only speak on the theory of this vital pursuit but more importantly, is a living example of it.
I attended my first Coaching Program in 1990 to learn from a “certified” Coach who was sharing work/life balance strategies. All credibility was lost when the coach’s “keys to a successful relationship with your spouse” were honed during his 3rd marriage! Recently I spoke at a conference where the presenter before me took great lengths to explain that she was one of only 12 Coaches to receive her “diploma” from the World Coaches Federation Australasia….this was after she arrived 20 minutes past her scheduled starting time and explained this away as having to take her kids to school; and that “life as a single mum can throw up some challenges”!!
